Strengthen your positive attitude

Strengthen your positive attitude

As the pressures and challenges around you increase, you may find it increasingly difficult to stay positive. The slightest thing may irritate, or annoy, as negative thoughts take hold.

Yet the sure way of handling added pressure successfully and to rise above the difficulties is to keep that positive attitude.  In the words of Norman Vincent Peale “Any fact facing us is not as important as our attitude towards it, for that determines our success or failure.”

Below are a few simple steps that will take you a long way forward in overcoming negativity during stressful times.

Making time for things you enjoy.  Time may be in short supply, however this is an essential investment, with high returns. Those positive feelings you will generate after engaging in an activity you enjoy will enable you to see new opportunities and solutions.

Plan the time you will spend. Use your diary to book an “appointment” to do what you enjoy. That way you are more likely to create the time, as well as having something to look forward to, as you glance at your diary.

Start your day, with right tone. Think of the things you are grateful for in your life. Also imagine the events of the day going well. Imagine yourself enjoying the day.

Exercise. Exercising will release endorphins or feel-good hormones, as they are sometimes called. People who exercise regularly, are more resilient to stress and find it easier to maintain a positive outlook.

Laughter. Watching funny movies, reading humorous stories and jokes, being with people who make you laugh will relax you, and break that cycle of negative thinking.

Sleep well. Things often seem more manageable after a good night’s rest. We are less easily aroused if we have slept well.

Eat healthily. Give your immune system a boost during challenging times by eating more fresh vegetables and fruit.

Water. Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day will help the brain function at its peak. Even a 10 per cent drop in our body’s water content will affect mental processing negatively.

Looking after yourself, will increase greatly your chances of success.
