Powerful presentation techniques

The need
We are not all born with the ability to present. Many people feel stress with the possibility of making a presentation and even though they know the content very well they find it difficult to express themselves with the required clarity and persuasiveness.

This training programme has been designed to equip the participants with the skills that will help them make a powerful presentation. Through practice exercises, feedback, sessions discussions, and presentations that are recorded and watched, participants become aware of the strengths they have and are motivated to work on the areas they need to develop.

By the end of the programme, each participant will have the confidence, knowledge and skills to "promote" their organisations, products and services through their presentations.

Analytical programme

Day 1

Introduction
  • Workshop: What hurdles must you overcome in order to make a powerful presentation?

First presentation
  • A two minute presentation which the participants will prepare in which they will present their selves.
  • Feedback on the presentation
  • Benefit: Identification and realisation of the participants’ strong points and areas of improvement.

Non verbal communication
  • How are technical and scientific knowledge supported with non verbal communication (body language)
  • Recognising what the audience is thinking through
  • Their body language
  • Using body language to communicate with the audience

Eye contact
  • Why is eye contact needed?
  • What are the rules for eye contact?
  • Exercise: Using eye contact
 
Preparing a presentation
  • What interests the audience?
  • Creating a clear goal and action plan
  • Selecting the data which will be used in a presentation

The power of a structured presentation
  • The power of opening and closing
  • Techniques to not lose interest

Second presentation
A short presentation in which all skills that have been taught will be put to use
Benefit: Practice of the skills that have been taught and helping participants feel more comfortable talking in front of an audience

Day 2

The power of the voice
  • How to increase persuasiveness by using the volume and tone of the voice
  • The importance of pausing
  • Developing speech skills
  • Exercise: talking with pauses

Preparation  
  • Setting up a room
  • How to maximize the effectiveness of your presentation using the correct room layout
  • Creating a checklist to make sure everything is ready

Visuals
  • The effect visuals have on memory
  • Creating visuals
  • Correct use of diagrams and graphs
  • How to use visuals to improve their effect on people’s memory
  • Exercise:  A short presentation using visuals
  • Benefit: Practice in using visuals

Handling questions
  • The importance of question handling with practical examples
  • Ways to encourage questions, even from a hostile audience
  • How the presenter’s credibility is influenced by the quality of the answers they provide

Third presentation
  • Using all the techniques that have been learned up to now, the participants are going to make a presentation with a business topic of their choice
  • Benefit: Practice through a complete presentation the audience (the other participants) will take notes and evaluate each presentation, stressing the areas that have improved but also the areas which could require some future improvement.
